H.E. Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council receives Duarte Pacheco, President of the (IPU)

 H.E Khalid Bin Hilal Al Maawali chairman of the Shura council, received H.E Duarte Pacheco president of the Inter-parliamentary Union who visits the Sultanate Oman.  

During the meeting, they reviewed ways of enhancing cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the IPU and achieve more coordination in efforts aimed at supporting international peace and security.
 
 H.E. the Chairman welcomed the guest and praised the great role undertaken by the IPU and its support across the world as well as its keenness on supporting human rights, and endeavors to support sustainable development goals and its attempts to resolve current international issues.
H.E. the Chairman confirmed the importance of Common Global Dialogue and the exchange of ideas and visions that the legislative councils aspire to, through parliamentary diplomacy, to deepen relations and unify positions in regional and international forums organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and legislative councils and increase coordination among them.
H.E. the Chairman talked about the development of the Shura council in the Sultanate of Oman and the authorities assigned to the members in accordance with the Basic Statute of the State.

The president of the IPU praised the renaissance witnessed by the Sultanate of Oman under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik that was reflected in the development of Shura, and the presence of the Council of Oman in various international parliamentary events.

He added that the Shura Council recorded positive attitudes towards many issues including ending wars and conflicts and tackling climate change.

He pointed that his first visit to the Sultanate of Oman would open the doors for coordination and cooperation between the Shura Council and the Inter-Parliamentary Union in the upcoming stage.
